Power to the groundPosted by F-5 Guy on December 16, 2003 at 09:19:45 from (198.26.125.13):
My find was a F-5 48 Ford 1 1/2 ton duals, grain bed, flathead v8 w/ 4speed(non-sinkro). The motor is sound at 22K but a few valves stick if it sets for a week or so. I want to pull the motor and would like to build it to pull a load. I see a lot of speed parts for the old flatty but what do I need to make that ole 239 motor pull? 3/4 cam? headders? dual exhust for sure, 2 carbs or 1 4 brl., Alum. heads? Getting this thing to stop will give a guy heart attacks, what would be a good upgrade? Will binders from a F-250/350s?, F-600? spindles, bearings, ect. fit on the old F-5? The last item is I would like to put a bed hoist on this truck the present 4 speed has no place for a PTO. Would a elec/hydro system work or would it be best to find a tran. w/PTO and if so what would fit the flathead bell housing? Thanks for nay help.
