'53 6400 series two speed firewall mounted controlPosted by Randy in IL on August 11, 2003 at 14:50:00 from (4.63.250.209): ok, on the 63 6400 series 2 ton i have, i need to find someone or someplace or something that knows or shows how exactly the axle switch parts work, the parts on the firewall namely, my neighbor came over the other day to check out the truck and hmm.... he noticed something i didnt yet: the bigger line on the firewall just ahead and on the front side of the firewall from the underdash axle speed switch has been separated and red plastic cap plugged off, but you couldnt tell unless you knew it, my neighbor wondered why the oil wetness on it and thats when i grabbed a hold of it and noticed the ends capped off, so hmmm..... it looks like hydraulic oil hose to me and is a decent size, but maybe only 3/8" I.D. because of probably thick wall it probably is. even though you can switch from hi to lo or vice versa and hear the axle 'click' it apparently is in lo range and not actualyl going into hi range so i need to find out if theres a hydraulic part of this and if it runs off of engine vacuum- since theres a good sized around 3/8" hose running off the rear-most end of the intake manifold on the 235 engine thats in the truck -------------------------------------
thanks!
