1950 ish Chevy WreckerPosted by Lynn Kasdorf- Leesburg, VA on May 20, 2003 at 09:19:17 from (64.236.188.160): My neighbor has a number of goodies that I've been trying to wrangel out of him for a couple of years. One thing is an old Chevy wrecker- looks to be between 1950-53, and about a 2 ton chassis? Last time I looked, the body was not tooo bad off, but there was a fair amount of floorboard rust. No idea about the engine's condition. I'm planning on building a barn which would facilitate a body-off restoration of something like this. How desirable are these old large Chevies? Any particular problems with restoring them? Like, is it possible to get parts at all, etc. Once it is restored, is it a usable truck? I can actually see having a wrecker around the farm as being very handy, for lifting machinerey, moving logs (I have a sawmill), etc. My dad had a 1953 1/2 ton pickup when I was growing up, and we all LOVED that truck! I wish it was still in the family. This big chevy wrecker has the same great "puppy dog face" of my dad's old truck.
