1986 Chev vapor canister...necessary?

Posted by Dennis Minn on April 21, 2003 at 17:54:09 from (162.58.35.101):

I freshly purchased an 86 truck w/ 350 v8, 700r4 tranny, a four barrel carb( quadrajet I think) on top of an aluminum manifold, and when I go to loosen the gas cap, air either enters or exits the tank depending on the weather. This truck has dual tanks but is missing the vapor canister under the hood. I'm thinking the canister is necessary, found most of one at the junkyard, but am unsure if I should hook it up, and if I do, what goes where. Also, there is a pcv on one valve cover hooked to the carb base, the only other vacuum line is for the distributor and the vent controls. Thanks for any replies, cause I am operating blindly here.
