I've still got a 1968 F-100 that my dad bought new the year I was born. Had a lot of "firsts" in that ol truck.

Dad gave it to me when I got my license and I swapped out the 240 and 3 speed for a V8 and auto.

Neighbor had a similar Chevy with a Pontiac engine. Never could come close to catching his truck - none of the other Chevys could either.

Years after we quit racing each other, I bought a Torino with a 351C and a rusty body. I put the engine, automatic transmission, and differential from the car into my ol truck. First time I drove it, I thought of my neighbor's chevy with the Pontiac engine. My truck was QUICK. Ran at 65 mph great. Hooked it to a trailer and it pulled it fine.

I had been running 3:70 gears (Ithink, it's been a while). The gears from the car were 2:75. I figured it would've been a dawg, but it wasn't.

I know that 2:75 gears alone in the truck would've killed any towing and hole shots. Did the combo work for me because the transmission from a car is geared different than one from a truck?

The car I robbed the running gear from had 139,000 miles on it. It all ran really well in my truck. I put 60,000 on it after the swap. The engine oil pressure got bad and I quit driving it. That was in '98. Getting the itch to redo it all.

Whatchall think?
