Turn the engine over until the #1 cylinder is at top dead center. Then aim the rotor to the number 1 on the distributor cap. From there It should start and that is about as close as you can get.Or if you can find a timing light that works with the 6 volt some 12 volts work.On the flywheel at the (front bottom pulley), there is a very small rivet that sticks out from it.Turn the engine over while running emery cloth(sand paper)On the top of the flywheel. This should shine up where the rivet is.Then take the inductive clamp from the timing light place it on the spark plug wire with the arrow facing towards the plug( might be away check, with who you get the timing light from)then place other clamps on the battery. From there Start the engine, aim the flashing beam at the flywheel.Advance or retard(turn distributor clockwise or counter clockwise) the timing till the light flashes at the same time as the you see the rivet. You might want to mark it with a piece of chalk.Thats how I got my 48 F-5 timed. And you should set the points to .021-.019
