'48 Chev pickup engine still skippingPosted by Bob on July 31, 2006 at 05:16:08 from (72.73.86.136):
Truck has been to two repair shops, they say they have replaced plug wires, plugs, points, condenser, coil and coil wires, checked timing, etc. The skip will almost smooth out at very high RPM but is very noticeable at low RPM. It is a constant skip, it does not change or vary, always there. There is an overall loss of power, hard to make even small hills without down shifting to increase RPM. There is some blue smoke from the tailpipe after coasting down a hill and then acceleration. Repair shops said they did a compression check and valves and rings were not great but OK. Maybe I should change all the items I mentioned above myself just to be sure? Could the valve timing be off a tooth? Hmmm. Any other things I should look at that might cause this constant skip? Thanks for your input.
