1986 F-250 Deer lease truck sputters dies !!!!Posted by B. Moran on April 02, 2006 at 17:37:03 from (68.206.3.56):
OK – new guy on the block – need some help with my deer lease truck – it’s 350 miles away at the lease – Ford 1986 - F-250 Super Cab with a high rack – 351 engine – it worked fine year before last – this past year all it does is run about 30-40 minutes and then after it gets warm – it starts sputtering and then dies, It’ll start after much hard cranking – then run a short distance then the same routine starts all over again………but it runs a shorter time – each instance – it runs a little shorter and shorter. One piece of information you should know - we towed it down there last year – it’s about a 7 hour tow – with the ignition switch on – so the steering wheel would turn – but neglected to disconnect the battery. I had it tuned up,etc before I towed it back down there……The first time this sputtering started – we smelled a plastic burning smell and there was a little smoke under the hood. We replaced the ignition switch in the sterring column and the coil on this thing – but it still keeps dying on me………… we’re so far back in the brush – that I’ll have to tow it into town about 2 hours away – we’ve got Slime in the tires and over 35 – it vibrates too much,,,,,,,,,,anybody out there with an idea????
