small chevy 350 oil out of exhaustPosted by tom on January 09, 2006 at 08:44:55 from (199.131.159.174): just need some insight about a small block 350 v-8 crate motor. Seems to be that I'm burning oil or, upon a cold start blue smoke out of exhuast. I have had the truck in storage for past two plus months, but I went over to start it up and opened the door to let exhaust out and what I got was blue smoke and black carbon spots on the snow. exhaust pipe is carbon black too. I do not know the wet or dry compression values. but i do have an oil leak from what appears to be the rear main seal. From what I am told that is typical of these 350's.. Motor has 53,000 miles on it. Where else could oil be making it into the compression chambers? valves? rings? thoughts? I haven't pulled the plugs to see if they are carbon or oil fouled. Starts great, runs very smooth - no ticking, or misses. tom
