defroster not working well 79 C10

Defroster not blowing very much air. Heater blows all kinds of air. I have talked to the owner of a 79 GMC and a 82 C10 and they said they had/have the same problem. Told me to get a bus fan to blow on the windshield. Are there any simple fixes to this or is this the way they were? Truck has A/C- haven't needed or tried it yet. Thanks in advance.
