New diffy for '47-'53 Chevy closed driveline...Posted by Raymond Gallant on August 02, 2005 at 18:41:16 from (142.167.63.46):
![]() Hi all, On '47-'53 Chevy 1/2 ton pickups with closed drivelines there is a pivot ahead of the differential (see attached illustration). This pivot is anchored by U-bolts and centered on the spring's existing centerbolt. When changing over to an open driveshaft, the new differential has to be in the same place as the old diffy. Therefore if I were to place the new diffy over the existing spring pivot centerbolt that would put the wheels too far ahead in the wheelwell. My question is: What is that exact distance between the existing centerbolt's location and the center of the new differential? NOTE: When I measured the GM cutaway illustration, I got a dimension measuring 2 1/8" but the latest catalog (#14) from Classic Performance Products lists that dimension in their Tech Info sheets (p. 239) as only being 1 1/2". Who's right??? Thank you all. Raymond Gallant
