We put a 5.0 from a Grand Marquis in a 78 pickup. If you get the entire engine compartment harness and all the attached junk with it, you will find that there are only 2 black plugs that go to the rest of the car. These are things like power, gauge readouts, Vss, fuel pump wires and cruise control. Get a diagram for the donor car at least. some parts houses have them on computer and can print them off for you. The wiring on a '56 isn't very elaborate. If you didn't have the harness and relays and all that from the Lincoln it would be a major job.
