Back in the 70's a lot of GM driveshafts had non replacable U joint bearings requiring you to replace the complete shaft. After a few years the driveline rebuilders found ways to machine the non repairable shafts so they could install new U joints. Thet would sell a repaired shaft on an exchange basis or rebuild your old one for a fraction of the price of a new shaft. I would check at a truck or driveline rebuilder to see if the same deal is avalible for your Mazda.
